Easter is a really special time of year in the Christian church. It marks the point in time when God's great salvation plan, conceived from before time began, finally came to fruition. Through Jesus' sacrificial death on the cross as the perfect sacrifice, and his glorious resurrection through which he defeated sin and death, the broken relationship between God and people was restored once and for all.
Sunday 13 April - 10:30am
Palm Sunday - The people lined the road, waved palm branches in the air and laid them as a carpet for Jesus to ride over as he entered Jerusalem at the beginning of the Passover festival. Join with us in glorious celebration as we remember his triumphal entry as God's Messiah. This service is a Communion Service. Our policy is that wherever you are in your walk with God, if you can declare with us that Jesus is Lord you are welcome to join with us.
Thursday 17th April - 7pm
Maundy Thursday Reflection - On Maundy Thursday we remember that Jesus shared his last passover meal with his disciples. After washing their feet he instituted what we now call communion in which we break bread and share wine in memory of him. After supper Jesus and his disciples went out to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray and it was here that Judas betrayed Jesus into the hands of the authorities. We will recount these events and share in a simple meal as a poignant reminder.
Friday 18th April - 9:30am
Good Friday Walk of Witness - After a fraudulent trial Jesus is led to the cross where, in the most barbaric way, he is put to death. You'll be pleased to hear we have no intention of re-enacting this part of the story, but as a witness to the events of this day, we will carry a cross around the district of Elson, starting at St Columba's Church. At certain key points around the area we will stop for a series of short readings and reflections from a Gospel writer's perspective that tell of the events of that day as they unfolded.
Afterwards you are welcome back at St Columba's Church for a hot drink and a hot cross bun.
Easter Sunday - 10:30am
Easter Sunday Celebration - Jesus Christ is risen! He is risen indeed - Hallelujah! Hallelujah means the same in virtually every language on earth, simply "Praise God!" Join with us as we celebrate Jesus' victory over the grave. Death was not the end, he lives on. Even now Jesus still lives with us here on earth through the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus' return from death is the one defining feature that makes Christianity so unique and assures our hope of eternal life.
This will be a Communion Service. Our policy is that wherever you are in your walk with God, if you can declare with us that Jesus is Lord you are welcome to join with us.
