Christmas is a really busy time in the Church's calendar as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. After all, if there's no Jesus, there's no Christian church. So here's a brief resume of what's coming up at GURC St Columba's over the Christmas period:
Saturday 6th Dec from 10:00 to 2:30
Christmas Fayre - Like last year we have loads of things to entertain and appeal to all ages. From free donkey rides for the children, games and craft activities, to a nice comfortable sit down and chat over coffee and bacon butties. Something for all the family without breaking the bank.
Sunday 7th December at 10:30
Gift Service - At our church we like to do what we can to support those in need and so there will be an opportunity to bring gifts and join with the shepherds and wise men as they brought what they could for the infant child. All gifts donated will go to the poor and needy in Gosport.
Sunday 14th December
Scratch Nativity at 10:30am - Hold on to your hats! We're going to try doing a nativity presentation with whoever turns up and no rehearsals. If we end up with 15 Mary's and no Wise Men at least it will be a memorable retelling of the birth of our Saviour and a lot of fun.
Sunday 21st December
Morning Service at 10:30am - All our services are family friendly with a chance to chat over refreshments afterwards. However if you want something a little lighter and a lot more zany . . . come along at 3pm for
Messy Church at 3pm - It's church Jim, but not as you know it! Definitely an all age experience. Singing, dancing and craft all with an underlying gospel message. Oh, and there's usually cake and other goodies to munch your way through.
Christmas Eve at 7:00pm
Carols by Candlelight - A slightly lighter version of a traditional 9 Lessons and Carols Service with a child-friendly feel. Get to sing some of your favourite carols both traditional and modern in the warm glow of hundreds of candles and hear the Christmas story retold from Scripture. A real atmospheric start to Christmas with the opportunity to enjoy coffee and mince pies afterwards.
Christmas Day at 10:30am
Christmas Morning Celebration - Leave the turkey to cook itself and join with us for a short service of celebration and thanksgiving for the birth of our Saviour - the real reason for Christmas in the first place. We promise not to keep you away from your presents and mulled wine too long.
